Geek Olympics June 11-15, 08 - Scotland
Written by Stephanie
Friday, 30 May 2008

Oh God they're letting them out of the computer rooms. Yes a special olympics just for geeks is being held in scotland in just a couple of weeks.

Now I understand even geeks need to prove their prowess every now and again, and seeing as I happen to have a geek fetish I'm all for encouraging the scrawny little buggers to come out into the light, but REALLY, SCOTLAND?? What kind of sadist came up with the idea that we should encourage all the weak and defenseless to attempt to show strength and machismo in bloody Scotland?

Oh well, time to insert the mandatory computers work better in the cold comment, so maybe the geeks will have half a chance of surviving a fight in a pub..... maybe.... if the Scots are feeling really generous.

London Council Threatening to Gaol Pensioner for Not Paying Olympic Tax
Written by Stephanie
Friday, 30 May 2008

Excuse me, but why the hell are the various governments making the people who live in London pay for the Olympics? I think I've missed something. Even CHINA hasn't slugged its citizens for the Beijing games. Are they expecting the Londoners to rent out their homes during the games to make oodles of money? Or perhaps everyone is going to suddenly find more employment for the three whole weeks that the games are on that it will justify the years and years of extra taxes paid?

Just out of curiosity, how much extra taxes are the businesses who are going to make a year's profit in 3 weeks paying??

Anyways, this story is about an 80yo pensioner who is being threatened with gaol because she is 2 years behind on her olympic taxes and is fighting paying them at all. Good on her.

Will Computer Games Stop Future Olympics?
Written by Stephanie
Friday, 30 May 2008

The chief of the IOC is worried that computer games are stopping children from learning how to play sport and fears that there will be a shortage of athletes in years to come, thus ending the Olympics.

Yes, I can definitely see Ethiopia, Kenya, China, Japan and Germany not being able to provide athletes because all their kids live in front of a computer. So folks, live in fear, each Olympic may be your last.

Stupid story here

Petition to Stop 'Team GB' Football Team at Olympics
Written by Stephanie
Friday, 30 May 2008

Here's the deal, everyone knows of the 4 national teams right? But for the London Olympics they want to combine the best of the best to create just one team. As a one off, not a problem, in fact it would be fascinating to watch.

The problem is that FIFA wants to make this permanent for all future competitions including the world cup. Anybody else see how this could be badly received across the whole of Britain??

Broken Hand Not Enough to Rule Out American Gymnast
Written by Stephanie
Sunday, 25 May 2008

The definition of determined is when you compete in a sport that is almost exclusively based on your hands, like gymnastics, but when you break one of them with only a few weeks to the Olympics you dont rule yourself out of competing.

It gets better though, not only is this American gymnast not ruling himself out of competing, the American Olympic Selectors aren't ruling him out either. Full story here

Here's another in our mini series of broken bones wont stop me from trying to break more.

Kyle Shewfelt is a Canadian Gymnast who hasn't quite grasped the basics of landing. Or gravity. While attempting a new move during training 5 months ago he broke both his legs when he landed wrong. Today, he is back to training hard to be able to stand in front of a viewing audience of millions and TRY IT AGAIN.....
